A Book to Consider: The Icing on the Cupcake

Icing on the Cupcake is super sweet book, mostly because of the delicious recipes at the end of each chapter!



I liked the writing, very clean and clear, easy to follow. Sharp and snappy dialogue too! I loved that Ansley, our main character, decided to shake up her life after being dumped by her longtime love - even if the shake was a reluctant one. Ansley centered on what she knew best - baking cupcakes and made it work. Even though I didn't like her during the first half of the book, she slowly won me over.


The main issue I had with this story were the young women who schemed to sabotage one another, even to go so far as to commit a hit and run - all for a guy. I know the story has to be dramatic for entertainment value, but I would have loved to see a different angle. But I did like the unexpected friendship that formed at the end, as well as Ansley's relationship with her parents.


Overall, this is a happy book, it has its funny moments and - anything and everything surrounding the cupcakes are divine! There are also tips for baking moist cupcakes, etc, as shared by the character. I wish I could give it 3 and a half stars, I'll definitely read more books by this author!
